Pineider memorializes legendary modern artist Arman with the Limited Edition Multiples Collection
French artist Arman was one of the greatest exponents of Nouveau Réalisme, an artistic movement that aimed to challenge the idea that art needed to elevate, idealize, or change the significance any subject through the medium of reality. He defined himself as “a painter who does sculpture”, often working with everyday objects (shoes, wristwatches, coins and so forth). His work, strongly influenced by Dadaism and by Pop Art and now found in the Metropolitan Museum, Tate Gallery, and Centre Pompidou, stretches from paintings to monumental public sculptures to his famous accumulations of objects of everyday use and their irreverent desecration and destruction. Arman once said that he specialized in everything but had never been an amateur, capturing the full breadth of his art and boundless creativity.
The fountain pens inspired by Arman's art are an innovative take on modern writing implements as objet d'arts, tracing the parallel histories of writing and modern art with the visionary's creativity. Like Arman's works, these fountain pens narrate human existence through the everyday items, using concepts of repetition and intersection in each of the three models. The clip of all three pens is a skeletal feather where voids and solids play on the style of Arman, emphasizing the feather's proportions. Thus each pen - Night & Day, Trilogy and Doppler - creates a morphology of its accumulation or of its break.
Night & Day is the first of the Arman Multiples, with two continuous apertures that give the pen an exaggeratedly sliced look, the entire mechanism virtually coming into contact with the writer's hand in a quintessentially "Arman" concept.
Second pen Trilogy encapsulates the concept of slices and multiples by repeating the slicing motif every 120 degrees and thus generating a multiple, symbolizing accumulation and repetition.
The third pen, Doppler, utilizes the two concepts and extends them to the clip, whose motif is repeated on both cap and barrel, offering an impression of obsessive and continuous repetition. A Doppler effect performs this repetition with the image of a feather, the symbol of Pineider's range and a passion for writing in the broadest sense of the term.
