    Meh, It works---

3 / 5 Meh, It works--- The Cross Type 1 Converter is designed to fit the Cross Townsend and Sporter pens. It has stepped plastic "stairs" that allow a secure fit inside the pen barrel. The Cross Type 2 Converter has threads above the nipple end and don't fit in the Townsend pens. The Type 1 converters are known as "Greenies" because they are green plastic colored instead of clear like the Type 2 converters.

I consider Cross Converters as a consumable product, to be changed out with a new one every 12 months. They are made in Germany, which is surprising since all Cross pens today are made in Asia. It has a very narrow barrel and has about 24mm worth of useable ink space. In other words, not much ink. I write with a Broad fairly juicy nib in my Townsend and have to re-ink after work to carry me through to the next day.

Construction is adequate, not good. It is proprietary, as are all Cross ink cartridges, so you are stuck with using them. I have had problems with air binding of the ink due to the narrow barrel diameter of the converter. I have found that by flushing the new converter with a very weak solution of water mixed with dishwashing soap (where bubbles are just starting to form) and then filling with ink corrects the problem. [After flushing with the dishwashing soap, do NOT flush again with clean water. You want the soap residue inside the coverter barrel to keep the ink flowing.]
