The Jewel of the East: Kuretake Meiji No Iro – Kujakuryoku

Step into a world of vibrant history with the Kuretake Meiji No Iro collection. This series is an olfactory and visual tribute to the colors that defined the Meiji era—a period when Japan’s palette expanded through global exchange. Kujakuryoku (Peacock Green) is the crown jewel of this collection, capturing the iridescent, exotic beauty of a peacock’s plumage that fascinated the Japanese public during this time of cultural rebirth.

With Kujakuryoku, your writing takes on a regal, shimmering intensity that bridges the gap between the natural world and modern artistry.

✨ The Essence of Kujakuryoku: Exotic Brilliance

The name "Kujakuryoku" refers to a vivid, deep green-blue inspired by the peacock. During the Meiji era, the introduction of synthetic dyes allowed for the creation of such brilliant, saturated hues, which were previously difficult to achieve with traditional plant-based pigments.

  • Water-Based Dye Luster: As a premium dye-based ink, Kujakuryoku offers exceptional clarity and saturation. On the page, it reveals a stunning depth of color, often showcasing beautiful shading that transitions from a lush forest green to a brilliant teal.

  • Fluid Grace: The ink is engineered for a "wet," smooth flow. It glides effortlessly across the paper, making it a joy for both rapid note-taking and deliberate calligraphy.

  • Vintage Glass Presentation: Each 20ml bottle is a testament to Japanese design. The heavy glass base provides stability for dip-pen use, while the Meiji-inspired label adds a touch of 19th-century luxury to your workspace.

  • Versatile Chemistry: Kuretake has formulated this ink to be a "universal" medium. It is gentle enough for the intricate feeds of luxury fountain pens, yet possesses the surface tension required for exquisite performance with glass pens.

🖋️ A Canvas Without Limits

The Meiji No Iro series is uniquely designed to be compatible with the modern creator's entire toolkit:

  1. Fountain Pens: Balanced for consistent performance and easy maintenance in all filling systems.

  2. Glass & Dip Pens: The ink clings elegantly to the nib, allowing for extended writing sessions and beautiful line control.

  3. Kuretake Karappo-pen: A revolutionary way to travel—simply load this vibrant green into a "Karappo" (Empty) pen to create your own portable brush or felt-tip marker.

🔍 Explore the Meiji No Iro Spectrum

Kujakuryoku is the collection’s most vibrant standout, but the Meiji era was a tapestry of diverse tones. Explore these notable variants at Pen Boutique:

  1. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Shimbashi-Iro – A fashionable turquoise blue that defined the "modern girl" aesthetic of old Tokyo.

  2. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Ebicha – A sophisticated "Grape Brown" that echoes the academic prestige of the era's top scholars.

  3. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Kuroganeiro – A steely "Iron Color" blue-grey that captures the industrial heart of a changing nation.

The Artist’s Perspective: "Writing with Kujakuryoku is like painting with liquid gems. It is a color that demands attention, turning every letter into a vibrant display of elegance and historic charm."
