The Royal Twilight: Kuretake Meiji No Iro – Shikon

Delve into the deep, dignified soul of Japanese history with the Kuretake Meiji No Iro collection. This series meticulously recreates the pigments that colored the Meiji era, a pivotal age of enlightenment and artistic fusion. Shikon (Purple Root) is the most regal of these hues—a profound, dark violet that carries the weight of nobility and the mystery of a deepening twilight.

With Shikon, your pen doesn't just write; it commands the page with a shade that has been revered as "Supreme Purple" for centuries.

✨ The Essence of Shikon: Noble Depth

The name "Shikon" refers to the dye extracted from the roots of the Lithospermum erythrorhizon plant. Historically, this deep purple was so difficult to produce that it was reserved for the highest ranks of society, eventually becoming a symbol of the intellectual and cultural sophistication of the Meiji period.

  • Water-Based Dye Richness: Formulated as a premium dye-based ink, Shikon offers a velvety, saturated flow. On paper, it appears as a near-black violet that reveals its stunning purple undertones and complex shading as the ink dries.

  • Liquid Sophistication: The formula is designed for a smooth, lubricated writing experience. It offers the dark legibility required for professional signatures while providing enough character for creative journaling.

  • Artisanal Glass Vessel: Each 20ml bottle is a masterpiece of minimalist Japanese design. The heavy glass base ensures it stays upright during dip-pen use, while the vintage-inspired label adds a touch of 19th-century luxury to your desk.

  • Universal Compatibility: Kuretake has calibrated the chemistry of this ink to be exceptionally versatile. It is safe for the delicate feeds of high-end fountain pens and offers the ideal viscosity for glass pens and dip nibs.

🖋️ One Ink, Infinite Expressions

The Meiji No Iro series is uniquely designed to bridge the gap between traditional and modern writing tools:

  1. Fountain Pens: Perfectly balanced for consistent performance and easy maintenance in all filling systems.

  2. Glass & Dip Pens: The ink’s surface tension allows it to cling beautifully to the nib, offering impressive line longevity between dips.

  3. Kuretake Karappo-pen: A revolutionary way to carry your favorite color—simply load the Shikon ink into a "Karappo" (Empty) pen to create your own portable, custom-colored brush or felt-tip marker.

🔍 Explore the Meiji No Iro Spectrum

Shikon provides the regal anchor of the collection, but the Meiji era was a tapestry of diverse tones. Explore these notable variants at Pen Boutique:

  1. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Shimbashi-Iro – A brilliant turquoise blue that captured the fashionable spirit of modern Tokyo.

  2. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Ebicha – A scholarly "Grape Brown," the signature color of the era's university elite.

  3. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Kujakuryoku – A stunning "Peacock Green" that reflects the exotic and vibrant influences of the time.

The Calligrapher’s Note: "Shikon is the color of quiet authority. It is an ink for those who know that the most powerful statements are often whispered in the deepest shades of purple."
