Fountain pens are special, and once filled, they are difficult to resell upon return. When purchasing a fountain pen, it is recommended that you test it by dipping the nib in ink. If you use the supplied cartridges or fill it with ink, we must send the pen to the manufacturer's repair facility to resell it. We want to ensure all our customers receive a brand-new, unused pen. Therefore, we charge a nominal 20% restocking fee to cover repair and shipping costs to the manufacturer's repair center. These pens are then resold in our outlet store. Please note that the restocking fee applies only to fountain pens that have been filled with ink. If you have any questions, please contact us.

The Industrial Spirit: Kuretake Meiji No Iro – Kuroganeiro

Step into the atmospheric world of late 19th-century Japan with the Kuretake Meiji No Iro collection. This series is a liquid archive of the Meiji era’s most iconic pigments—a period defined by the rapid transition from feudal tradition to industrial modernity. Kuroganeiro (Iron Color) is the brooding, powerful anchor of this collection, capturing the steely strength of the era’s burgeoning architectural and maritime feats.

With Kuroganeiro, your writing carries a weight of authority, reflecting a time when Japan forged a new identity in iron and ink.

✨ The Essence of Kuroganeiro: A Slate of Sophistication

"Kuroganeiro" translates literally to "the color of iron." It is a deep, complex blue-grey that mimics the dull, cool sheen of wrought iron and steel. In the Meiji era, this color represented progress, stability, and the quiet power of the modern age.

  • Water-Based Dye Depth: As a premium dye-based ink, Kuroganeiro offers a moody, atmospheric transparency. It is a "dark" ink that reveals its secrets through shading—moving from a near-black charcoal to a soft, foggy blue-grey in lighter strokes.

  • Modern Engineering: Despite its historic inspiration, the formula is strictly 21st-century. It is engineered for high performance, providing a smooth, lubricated writing experience that feels substantial on the page.

  • Architectural Glass Vessel: Each 20ml bottle is housed in a heavy, classic glass container. The design is a nod to the vintage apothecary bottles of the 1800s, making it a sophisticated addition to any modern desk.

  • Universal Flow: Kuretake has calibrated this ink to be exceptionally versatile. Its gentle, water-based chemistry is safe for high-end fountain pens while maintaining the viscosity needed for traditional dip tools.

🖋️ A Masterpiece of Compatibility

The Meiji No Iro collection is uniquely formulated to work across a diverse range of artistic mediums:

  1. Fountain Pens: Perfectly balanced to prevent clogging, ensuring a reliable flow for daily correspondence.

  2. Glass & Dip Pens: The ink’s surface tension allows it to cling beautifully to glass grooves, offering impressive line longevity between dips.

  3. Kuretake Karappo-pen: Designed for use with the "Empty Pen" system; simply allow the reservoir to absorb the Kuroganeiro ink to create a custom-colored technical marker or brush pen.

🔍 Explore the Meiji No Iro Palette

Kuroganeiro provides the structural foundation of the collection, but the Meiji era was a kaleidoscope of change. Explore these notable variants at Pen Boutique:

  1. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Shimbashi-Iro – A brilliant turquoise blue that was the height of fashion among the socialites of Tokyo.

  2. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Ebicha – A scholarly "Grape Brown" that became the signature color of Japan’s first modern university students.

  3. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Shinkucha – A deep "New Grass" green that captures the enduring natural beauty of the Japanese landscape.

The Drafter’s Insight: "Kuroganeiro is the color of the midnight blueprint. It is an ink for the visionaries who know that the strongest structures are built on a foundation of deep, thoughtful lines."
